The Payroll Post - September 2025 Print

President Letter

Dear Chapter Members,

As we turn the page into September, it fills me with pride and gratitude to recognize one of the most meaningful occasions on our calendar—National Payroll Week, which we celebrate this year from September 1st through 5th, 2025. This week is not only a time of recognition, but also a heartfelt tribute to the dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment each of you brings to our profession every single day.

Payroll is more than numbers on a ledger—it's the engine powering every organization, the bridge between employers and employees, and the thread that binds our businesses and communities together. Each paycheck that is processed reflects the hard work, hopes, and dreams of countless individuals and families. And you, as payroll professionals, ensure those bright moments arrive, accurately and on time, week after week.

This National Payroll Week let’s take a moment to celebrate our achievements, both big and small. Whether you helped implement a new technology, navigated complex regulatory changes, or simply answered a colleague’s question with patience and clarity, your contributions are invaluable. The work you do not only keeps companies running smoothly but also supports the financial wellbeing of thousands across Greater Atlanta.

I encourage each of you to participate in our chapter’s National Payroll Week activities, connect with your colleagues, and share your stories of pride and perseverance. Let’s use this week to raise awareness of our profession’s importance and to inspire the next generation of payroll leaders. Together, we form a community of support, innovation, and excellence.

Happy National Payroll Week!

With appreciation,
Priti Rughani, CPP
President, Greater Atlanta Payroll Association

Chapter Member Spotlight

Chapter Member Spotlight – Leslie Jones Cainion, CPP
Meet our President-Elect

I joined the GAPA chapter of the American Payroll Association in 2013 shortly after
receiving my CPP. I had recently hired a payroll supervisor that was very involved with the chapter that invited me to attend a meeting. I saw joining the chapter as a way help others through the journey that I have spent more than half my life traveling. This journey included helping so many people I met grow in the profession and in their careers.

A career in payroll promises you will never be bored from doing the same thing day in and day out. Every day brings a new challenge to do a job that allows our companies, our team, our employees and their families to become successful in what they do. It is a career that promises you can always find a job and it will never be eliminated by technology – you will always need human involvement.

I assumed the responsibility as incoming President of the Chapter because I saw it as an opportunity to do what I love best – provide knowledge and help others succeed. As I tell so many folks I meet, “I no longer work for me” in this stage of my career. I plan on planting seeds in the chapter that will grow for generations to come, by helping create leaders that will go on to plant those same seeds in so many others. The driver for me is the feeling I get when I see someone else succeed at their goals. It’s the adrenaline created that keeps me motivated to do what I am doing and proof that what I’m doing is the right thing. The chapter will provide the opportunity for me to touch so many more people and spread that wealth of knowledge faster than I otherwise could.

As the upcoming president elect, my biggest challenge will be that of growing the
chapter and motivating others to become involved. I think there needs to be a paradigm switch of sorts in how some of us think when it comes to our involvement in the chapter. I’d like to see more of us working towards helping others succeed and coming up with new ideas on how to make that happen. We must think outside of the box regarding how we teach, how we speak and how we do things to attract the future generation of payroll leaders. It’s a big challenge, but I think we are all up to making it happen – will you join me?
